November 5th, 2009

Yesterday, we had our carbon footprint measured by The Centre for Innovation and Sustainability Excellence of VECCI.

VECCI defines sustainability as:

“meeting the needs of today without compromising the needs of generations to come. For business this means managing and improving your environmental, community, workplace and economic practices.”

Glowing Review in Lonely Planet

August 18th, 2009

Limosa Rise has been reviewed in the Lonely Planet book “East Coast Australia”.  We only found out about this when a guest mentioned that they discovered us through Lonely Planet!

The new, luxury, self-contained accommodation at Limosa Rise has already won regional and state awards. Not surprising, given the contemporary design of the three tastefully-appointed cottages with their full-length glass windows taking full advantage of sweeping views across Corner Inlet.

You can read the review, and the chapter on Wilson’s Promontory at Scribd, on page 113.

Pigface flowering on the Beach at Corner Inlet

This is Pigface, a native succulent, flowering on the beach at Corner Inlet, Wilsons Prom.

If taking long walks on the beach is your thing, then nature will always put on a show for you!

Emus Grazing at Wilsons Prom

June 19th, 2009

There’s so much beautiful wildlife around Wilsons Prom, and with the cottages only 10 minutes from the Wilsons Promontory National Park, it’s easy to make quick day trips to Tidal River.

We came across these emus by the side of the road, and they seemed completely unconcerned about our presence!

Beautiful Accommodation Review Gippsland

The review by Simon St John reads:

The view across Corner Inlet to Wilsons Promontory is a kaleidoscope of colour, and few places offer a better vantage point than one of Limosa Rise’s contemporary villas. Think of a hexagon with glass walls looking seaward and you have the studio in a nutshell; add two bedrooms to the hexagon and it describes the larger villas. In any case, the views, light, space and colours are mesmerising.

The property sits about five minutes from the Prom National Park and there are nearby beaches, wineries and all sorts of touring opportunities. But once you enter the living area clad in cool blues, light tans and polished timber boards and relax on the wide deck (with its seats and barbecue), there’s a good chance you’ll want to stay put. And don’t worry if the weather is cool – the wood heater will keep you toasty warm.

Limosa Rise is also fantastic for cooks – the kitchen is fully equipped, nearby Foster has all the stores you need and has excellent country providores including a seafood supplier. Walk it all off at the Prom, or just sit back and enjoy the view.

About the Kitchen Garden Program

This fantastic scheme was commenced with assistance from the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation and to date is the only operating Kitchen Garden in Gippsland.  Having used the initial grant from the Foundation to establish their Kitchen Garden,   the children sow, grow and harvest vegetables and herbs.  Each week this produce is used by the children in their commercial kitchen to prepare meals for themselves and staff.

Foster PS at the Farmers Market

Recently a small group of children with their supervisor, undertook a cooking demonstration at the Foster Farmers’ Market.  It was wonderful to observe the confidence these children showed as they wandered the crowd offering ‘tasters’ of the dips and breads which they had made.  This is a great development tool for children.

All proceeds of this fundraiser will help Foster Primary School to achieve financial sustainability for this highly successfully module.  Limosa Rise is proud to be able to assist the Foster Primary School Kitchen Garden.

Please download the Kitchen Garden Flyer for more details (Terms and Conditions can be found on the flyer).
